This past week I have witnessed the destruction of a man. No, not of a man per se. But of the credibility of a longtime Internet persona.
No, not mine. I never had any credibility to start with, you fools!
Some of you know who I'm talking about already. Most of you wouldn't have a clue even if I told you his username.
But anyway - it was around seven years ago that I first met this fellow. We bonded due to our similar interests. Our clique grew and morphed. Throughout the years, many came and went. He himself came and went, bowing out when he realized he'd been getting a little overemotional toward the game.
In the past couple of years, he became increasingly irritable. He was practically a recluse by comparison to the rest of us. But still welcome when he peeked in.
The periods of his participation grew shorter and shorter as his ability to cope with the dynamics of the group grew thinner and thinner.
His increasing negativity did not go unnoticed. Not by a mile. But for the most part we allowed him the luxury of our support. We made excuses for him. I made excuses for him. His grandfatherly position amongst us all was almost unassailable.
But there is a line that can be crossed.
A transgression here and a transgression there were peppered with occasional harsh words from this poster that were unprovoked.
Finally his outbursts could be tolerated no longer. He was called out. By me and by others. He reacted poorly.
Honestly, I've never seen such a pathetic display of trying to weasel out of personal accountability in all my life. His behavior sickens me. It is less than worthy of a man.
What he touts as integrity and pride are but arrogance and ego. He is delusional, irrational and unapologetically evasive. He is overflowing with the traits that he decries in others. He has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that his word means nothing and that he is without honor.
The only question is whether he was like this years ago and we're just now noticing, or if it has been the slow descent into assholedom that it appears to be.
As if that were not enough, he is spreading lies about something that happened several years ago. It apparently involved yours truly, which is news to me!
I can't tell you the disappointment I feel toward this individual on a very personal level.
But that's people for you. Don't trust anything on two legs. They will all disappoint you eventually.
(As I have no doubt disappointed countless others, but that's another story entirely...)
In other news, I had a long five-day weekend. I didn't do much in the way of productivity this week. I do have a couple new reviews to post though.
King Diamond: "The Spider's Lullaby"
King Diamond: "Conspiracy"
Sniff you jerks later.
