This band is kicking my ass right now.

Image

Look at that cover. Does that remind you of something you'd find on cassette in the early 80s? Some sort of Satanic NWOBHM offering? It kinda sounds like that too; hell, it probably harkens more to the 70s than the 80s. It's way more traditional-sounding than my tastes usually allow for, but damn I love the atmosphere here and the vocals have grown on me a lot too.

I've lost track of how many times I've listened to Death Knell today.

I heard the single with Elizabeth and Death Knell on it, thought it was alright
The full length has turned me into a casual fan, pretty sure I'll end up liking it way more, this band has a lot of potential.

That was my first impression too, but I gave Death Knell a few spins and then got the full-length last night. I'm gonna be playing it a lot today.

They definitely sound like they have 70s hard rock influence, yeah. Cool band conceptually and musically. I notice they did some stuff on Iron Pegasus, the same label that puts out a lot of Sabbat/Metalucifer material.

Edit: I posted this at FMP and one of them said the cover looks like the cover on Salem's Lot. Not entirely the same, but very similar. I forgot about that flick.

I read this Scooby Doo comment and laughed my ass off for some reason.

I downloaded it last night and listened to it at work. It's really fucking good. I'm actually kinda surprised Sac likes it. It's not weird or "out there" at all. It's old school metal that borrows heavily from NWOBHM.

You know, I'm loathe to say this - I don't want the band to get overhyped and fall victim to that. But for me, this band does the Mercyful Fate schtick better than Mercyful Fate ever did.

Heh, the first thing I thought of when seeing the album cover was the old Salem's Lot VHS box art, the one ThermoJackHammer posted.
I went to the metal archives and searched the band, and there's a few bands that go by the "GHOST" moniker, as well as a bunch of 'ghost' related bands. Here's the list the site pulle up:

1. A Very Old Ghost Behind the Farm
2. Black Ghost (Fra)
3. Black Ghost (Ita)
4. Carrion Ghost
5. Centurions Ghost
6. Circle of Ghosts (or) C.O.G.

11. Ghost (Nor)
12. Ghost (Pol)
13. Ghost (Swe)
14. Ghost Brigade

17. Ghost in the Gears
18. Ghost in the Machine (or) GITM, G.I.T.M.
19. Ghost Kommando
20. Ghost Machinery
21. Ghost of a Fallen Age
22. Ghost of Mendea
23. Ghost of Metal Past
24. Ghost Orgy
25. Ghost Snorter
26. Ghost Story

Supposedly the band's secret identities have been sniffed out. They're members of Repugnant, Subvision, Magna Carta Cartel and In Solitude.

This is Subvision's MySpace page. The singer definitely sounds like the same guy. http://www.myspace.com/sofarsonoir

I listened to some samples on amazon yesterday, very catchy, good....and sorta mainstream. Not what I was expecting coming from a Sac recommendation. Not sure I go for the image and stuff. Anyone going too far with the satanic image pushes me away as much as anyone going too far with Christianity. The album seems very well produced, another surprise. But then, it is 2010. It's getting harder to poorly produce music these days, on any budget.

The Scooby-Doo and Salem's Lot references are too funny.

One giveaway as to the real identities of the band members is the drummer. He's a lefty drumming on a right-handed kit. You rarely ever see that. The only two I can think of at the moment are the guys from Warlock and The Romantics....and you know it's neither of those guys!!!!

I know, it's super clean. I read an interview with one of the band members who described it as satanic rock recorded with a million-dollar budget in 1978.

Interesting. I wouldn't have picked up on that in a thousand years.

Yeah, the way to tell is pretty simple, and really obvious (if you're looking for that sort of thing. Freaks like me do that). Whether you're right or left-handed, if you play drums traditionally, your dominant hand keeps time on the hi-hats, while the other hand keeps the beat on the snare. The hi-hat, traditionally, is opposite your dominant side (if you're a righty, the hi-hat is left of the snare, and vice versa). This means your arms are crossed while keeping a beat. So, a lefty looks kinda odd playing a righty kit since his arms do not cross while keeping a beat.

Yeah. It's odd James had even heard of them. I didn't think they were all that popular? Reminds me of when Kerry King name dropped Usurper.

I just loaded Ghost Opus Eponymous the other day and just started listening to it on the van system which is where I listen to most of my music.^The van has a pretty decent system so its good for these things. It is pretty much as described here but to me its like retro but yet refreshing by having its own take on things.
